93-Morning / Ad-Duha:

In God’s Name, whose Mercy is Great and Continuous:

(93:1)   I swear by the morning,

(93:2)   and by night settling,

(93:3)   that I did not abandon nor do I hate you.

(93:4)   And the next life is better for you.

(93:5)   Till you are completely satisfied, I will keep giving to you.

(93:6)   Didn’t I find you an orphan and sheltered you?

(93:7)   Didn’t I find you lost and guided you?

(93:8)   Didn’t I find you poor and enriched you?

(93:9)   So be kind to the orphans,

(93:10) and be gentle with the beggars,

(93:11) and share with others the blessings I have given you.

CHAPTER NOTES:

Verse 1: This was an early chapter revealed personally addressing Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, without mentioning him by name. It can be read by adding, “Oh Muhammad” at the beginning to get primary meaning, and it can be read without it to get the indirect message God is saying to everyone who is facing hardship in the service of God’s message.

Verse 3: After some of the first chapters of the Quran were revealed, there was a pause in revelation. The people of Makkah started making fun of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, claiming that God hates him and has abandoned him. Then this chapter was revealed to show that only God decides when to send revelation.
